Some definitions

For some all this web malarky is pretty darn confusing. Here's a few key phrases that you may have stumbled across. Remember, don't use tham all in one sentence: plain wrong.

Web 2.0

Much bandied about neologism, web 2.0 simply describes the way in which new technologies enable the users to interact with websites they view. Once, we the viewer passively looked at a website, with web 2.0 we help build the site, generating content using more elaborate technical solutions. Uh? Okay an example: Facebook is essentially a tool for writing content onto the web. Who built all those pages? We all did. Genius. If you happen to own Facebook.

Blog (including Wordpress)

An excellent example of a web 2.0 technology, blogging software, including the well resourced wordpress, allows users to create content and for others to then interact with it. Here's a neat example of a clients use: Elspeth Thompson's blog.

Twitter

Micro-blogging with less than 140 characters. There's an awful lot of crap flying round but it does have some remarkable utility. The Why, What and Wherefore. . .

So you want a website, why?

It may seem facetious but it's worth sitting down with your colleagues and telling them why you want a website.

What's this site you want going to do? What are the results you want from it? Do you have any outcomes you'd like to see?

If you begin to think about these questions then, when we talk, we can start to contemplate what technologies we need to use to ensure your website does what you want.
